  • Healing Penalty

Do you apply the Wound modifiers of the character you are trying to heal to your healing roll still in SWADE? That's how the old rules worked, but it doesn't look obvious now.

The victim's Wounds no longer apply, but the healer's Wound penalties still do.

There have been a number of subtle changes made to healing from Deluxe to Adventure Edition.

      1) The patients wounds do not contribute a penalty.
      2) The amount of time per attempt does depend on the number of wounds.
      3) Incapacitated is not a separate Wound level that needs to be removed first.

      Example:
Three Medics treat 3 PCs. Each PC has 3 Wounds and are Incapacitated. We will assume that the rolls all succeed, but do not result in a raise.

      Deluxe Edition:
      Minute 0 - 10
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll at -3 to remove the Incapacitated State

      Minute 11 - 20
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll at -3 to remove 0 - 2 wounds on their patient. As we assume that they get a success, but not a raise, each PC heals 1 wound.

      Minute 21 - 30
      The Medics switch patients.
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll at -2 to remove 0 - 2 wounds on their new patient. As we assume that they get a success, but not a raise, each PC heals 1 wound.

      Minute 31 - 40
      The Medics switch patients.
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll at -1 to remove the final wound on their new patient.

      Adventure Edition:
      Minute 0 - 30
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll to remove the 0 - 2 wounds on their patient. As we assume that they get a success, but not a raise, each PC heals 1 wound.

      Minute 31 - 50
      The Medics switch patients.
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll to remove 0 - 2 wounds on their new patient. As we assume that they get a success, but not a raise, each PC heals 1 wound.

      Minute 51 - 60
      The Medics switch patients.
Each Medic needs to make a Healing roll to remove the final wound on their new patient.

If the Initial attempt did not succeed, then it is impossible to remove all wounds on a character that has 3 Wounds as the second attempt would also take 30 minutes and can only remove 2 Wounds.

Of course, this changes if the Healing Power is used.

Um, where does the -3/-2/-1 come from in your Adventure Edition examples? Are you saying that the three medics also are wounded?

Although the target's Wounds don't create a penalty, the healing check is now 10 minutes per wound level. So, a victim with 3 wounds will require 30 minutes for the check. Also additional penalties may apply if you don't have a basic first aid kit or other gear.
