  • Coalition Characters

    Hello everyone,

How would you go about making Coalition characters that are members of a military unit? How would you build them so that they have the power of a standard Rifts character? What sourcebooks should I consult?

I found some great pictures on deviantart for inspiration that I'll use.

Just MARS ‘em. Commando, PA Pilot, Mercenary, Demolition Expert and Juicer all work lore wise. Psi stalkers and dog boys by lore shouldn’t be piloting anything. The CS also has psychics, they love Nega Psychics, but Bursters and Zappers work too.

MARS is pretty much Coalition in a nutshell. Just replace the equipment with Coalition standard issue and you're gold.

MARS is one of he Iconic Frameworks in Savage Rifts. It stands for Mercenary, Adventurer, Rogues and Scholars. The Player's Guide has several such as Wilderness Scout, Merc, Headhunter, Power Armor Ace, etc. There are some additional ones including some more specifically tailored to the Coalition such as Commando, RCSG Scientist and EOD Specialist in the Empires of Humanity expansion book.

Also, the Empires of Humanity book has Coalition gear in it and the Savage Foes of North America books also has Coalition gear.

pretty sure there will be something on this in the new CS Data File: For Humanity. They mentioned new MARS and creating CS characters. But in general, if it doesn't include magic, it can be a CS character with a little rejiggering. I run a CS game on savagerifts.com
This was my list of allowed frameworks
Borg, Burster, Mind Melter, Nega-Psychic, and Zapper (both from Arcana and Mysticism).
The following Mercenaries, Adventurers, Rogues, and Scholar Packages can also emulate special trades and occupations within a military structure.
Tomorrow Legion Player’s Guide: Body-Fixer/Cyber-Doc, City Rat (good scouts and agents), Headhunter, Merc Soldier (heavy grunts and specialists), Operator, Personal Concept Option, Power Armor Ace, Psi-Operator (especially in psychic heavy units), Robot Vehicle Ace, Rogue Scholar (Technical Advisors, Scientists, and Spies), Vagabonds, and Wilderness Scouts (Forward Observers, Scouts, and Snipers)
Empires of Humanity: RCSG Scientist, Commando, Cowboy, Gunslinger, EOD Specialists, and Intel Operative
As well, the Bounty Hunter, from the Tomorrow Legion Field Manual, the Dinosaur Hunter and Vampire Hunter from Blood and Banes, and the Psi-Slinger from Arcana and Mysticism also work well.

Choose from the following Races: Human, Psi-Stalker, Mutie (Human Mutant), Dog Boy, or Battle Cat.

Dinosaur Hunter makes a good designated marksman. I have a Battle Cat Bounty Hunter in group, focused on capture of HVTs. Our Infiltration Intelligence Agent is a City Rat, and we have a Commando as XO, and a Body Fixer or Cyber-Doc (can't remember which off the top of my head) as the platoon's Warrant Officer. I use a full Platoon for special operations, where there are a PC squad, a squad of extras providing support, and then two other squads, one focused on support (repair, fire support, medical, etc) and then one that stays at the FOB and does Analysis and logistics. The PCs are the darlings of the unit. That means they have integral support, as well as what they can request from Battalion and beyond.
