  • Layout Feedback & Location of Class Edges

I have to say the Class edges being mixed in with other edges is very jarring. They create an unnatural divide in the edges and really could be in their own section. Especially if looking for a Background edge, the natural tendency is to go after the class edges.

Is this just me, or does it feel wrong to others as well?

Yup. Its a bad choice. Fact is, they're not really edges, as much as races are not edges. They need their own area. They should probably have a collection of edges called class edges for those specialist upgrades, or even have each set after its class as upgrades.

I agree. The layout is kind of a strange. I think the Edges chapter should include the category "Class Edges" where it is now, but this should only explain what Class Edges are and otherwise refer the reader to a new "Classes" chapter.

So the outline should look like this:

      HTML Code:
      Characters
      |
      |-- Edges
      | |-- Background Edges
      | |-- ...
      | |-- Class Edges (see Classes)
      | |-- ...
      |
      |-- Classes
          |-- Barbarian
          |-- ...

Not sure I agree. Ancestry and classes are core layers to the character. It seems it should be ancestry, class, and then the rest in regular order.

Yeah, I'd go Ancestry, Class Edge, and then the rest. And Class Edges are important enough to get a chapter heading of their own, I think.

Also, I'd want to expand the Ancestry section to include the full SWADE rules for modifying ancestries... but that's a different post.

Honestly, I think that any options to edit/add Ancestry/Class/otherthingsdunno already exist in the basic Swade rules. With this being a setting book, adding expansion rules seems like a sidebook at best. Gm expansion handbook, maybe? I'd just be happy if things like the Ancestries had a tad more flavor text about them, Classes were locked more into the world, and the like.

Either that or make it a generic fantasy book in total, and move all the story items to the companion? One or the other.

Honestly, they don't need their own "section", but it would be useful to simply shift them to the beginning/end of the edge section instead of throwing them in alphabetically.

It looks better if you view it in two-page mode (Class Edges on the left, Iconic on the right), but it's something we're not settled on. It presents a lot of layout challenges however we move them, so waiting until the rest of the layout is more final (primarily it's helpful to already have all the extra content and words we need to add already in) helps limit the large amount of work moving things around creates.

I do view it in two page view on a UWHD screen (3440x1440). They are beautiful for sure, but, it is still jarring when looking for classes and ends up flipping back and forth in a strange way when picking your class "feels" like it should come right after selecting your race/ancestry.

But right now I am selecting ancestry, then flipping through to class, then back to hindrances, then skills and once I get to edges I flip past the class edges and miss the background edges because it is only a couple pages and formatted in a completely different way from the Class Edges.
