    Thing that happened in 1882;
    • The Standard Ghost Rock Trust is secretly created in the United States, to control multiple corporations set up by John D. Rockefeller and his associates.
    • Holborn Viaduct power station in the City of London, the world's first ghost rock-fired public electricity generating station, begins operation
    • Old West outlaw Jesse James is shot in the back of the head and killed by Robert Ford in St. Joseph, Missouri. He probably returns as a Harrowed.
    • The Chinese Exclusion Act is the first important law which restricts immigration into the United States. The viability of the act in Deadlands is debatable, given the condition of California.
    • Thomas Edison flips the switch to the first commercial electrical power plant in the United States, lighting one square mile of lower Manhattan. This is considered by many as the day that begins the electrical age.
    • Franklin Leslie shoots Billy Claiborne dead, in the streets of Tombstone, Arizona.
    • Charles J. Guiteau is found guilty of the assassination of James A. Garfield (President of the United States) and sentenced to death, despite an insanity defense raised by his lawyer. He is later hung. He might also come back as a Harrowed, albeit an insane one.

    1883
    • The first electric lighting system employing overhead wires begins service in Roselle, New Jersey, United States; it was installed by Thomas Edison. The rumor that the lines form a glyph if looked at from above are exaggerated.
    • The first vaudeville theater is opened, in Boston, Massachusetts.
    • The world's first rodeo is held in Pecos, Texas.
    • The University of Texas at Austin opens to students. The founders swear that neither the campus, nor Austin, will ever be weird, known for music, and shall always be a place a dour work and study.
    • Self-described Black Bart the Po-8 makes his last stagecoach robbery, but leaves a handkerchief with a laundry mark that eventually leads to his capture.
    • Bisbee Massacre: 25 people are killed in the robbery of a general store by bandits, in Bisbee, Arizona.
    • During construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1883, blasting and excavation reveal high concentrations of nickel–copper ore, and ghost rock, at Murray Mine, on the edge of the Sudbury Basin, located near Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
    • This year sees the eruption of Krakatoa.
    • Carl Wilhelm Siemens, a noted Mad Scientist, dies in a bet involving sideburns.

No doubt in my mind that Warlord Kang's opinions on the Chinese Exclusion Act are as follows: "President Arthur has made his decision; now let him enforce it!"

If I were to do a plot points campaign, it would involve the PCs getting caught up in events surrounding a pitched US naval and army campaign against Kang. Refugees, sieges, weapons of last resort, evil and desperate people, etc.

I figure that the US couldn't even attempt any direct military campaign against Kang due to him being the only Rail Baron with a rail line between the Sioux Nations among other stuff he's been gaining a stranglehold on. You can't fight a war while the other guy has a significant control over your own logistics.

        1884
        • The Fabian Society is founded in London. They are subverted by monsters.
        • John Joseph Montgomery conducts the first manned glider flights in the United States near Otay, California. This manages to make weird science into normal technology.
        • The Colchester earthquake, England, the UK's most destructive, occurs. Ghost rock is discovered in England. Mining it is something assigned to prisoners. A penal colony under England is established.
        • Angelo Moriondo of Turin is granted a patent for an espresso machine. Various mad scientists make improvement to the machine, with mixed results.
        • The Dow Jones Transportation Average, consisting of eleven transportation-related companies (14 railroads and two non-rail companies, Western Union and Pacific Mail), is created. It includes all the railroads that survived the Rail Wars.
        • Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is first published, in London.
        • Near Frisco, New Mexico, deputy sheriff Elfego Baca holds off a gang of 80 Texan cowboys, who want to kill him for arresting cowboy Charles McCarthy (the cowboys have been terrorizing the area's Hispanos, and Baca is working against them).
