A Mare's Leg is just a cut-down version of a lever-action repeating rifle (Winchester or Henry, typically). Invented in 1957 for television, it's cinematic enough to be setting appropriate.
The changes result in a smaller magazine (a tube under the barrel) and a reduced effective range.

    "Mare's Leg" (.44-40)
    Range 18/36/72, Damage 2d8, RoF 1, Wt 6, Shots 6, AP 2, Cost $45.

Bonus: As a lever-action, it should probably count as a Revolver (single-action). As a carbine, the Unstable Platform penalty should be reduced to -1. But those are both house rules at my Reloaded tables, not actual setting rules.

You can do a version that's actually a pistol. Just use the Colt Buntline stats (with stock attached) if you want it to be more of a pistol.
I hope you find the above post useful. And not insulting, because I was trying to be helpful, not insulting; being a pedantic jerk, that isn't always clear.
