Seems like you could run "Weird Firefly" with the game.

If I ever get around to playing, I'll let my players do what they want (within reason) so they have fun. If that involves doing their own thing and ignoring the events unfolding around them, so be it

edit, I can't delete this bad emoji whilst using my phone
Like what you have read in someone's post? Hit that like button and let everyone know.

I run Deadlands Reloaded. One of my players writes an incharacter blog here --> http://ballgownsandbattleskirts.blog...deadlands.html

That's how I describe the setting to newbies. "Firefly, with weird and horrific supernatural stuff."

Personally, I will usually throw in a PPC just to have a track I am trying to stay on. What they choose to do is largely up to them.
I hope you find the above post useful. And not insulting, because I was trying to be helpful, not insulting; being a pedantic jerk, that isn't always clear.

How much "wild west" is still in Lost Colony?

          A large amount. You've got:
          • Ancient native cultures interacting with conquering foreigners. Sometimes in violence, sometimes in peace.
          • Hard-scrabble frontier life, with a few advanced gizmos but a very unreliable supply line. True both on Banshee and in the mining camps of the asteroid belts.
          • Limited local law enforcement, with wandering Rangers bringing serious enforcement, and a powerful standing army that acts at their arbitrary whim.
          • Dangerous wildlife. There are alien dinosaurs, man-eating plants, and supernatural threats. Human guns can kill them, but they are still incredibly dangerous.
          • Dangerous and unpredictable weather that breaks down infrastructure and makes the supply situation even less tenable.
So, there's a lot of 'Wild' in the Way Out West.
