Dr Pepper Radiation Myth

This is the first I've heard of this myth, so I can't speak to its origins or whether it's based on actual beliefs or practices.
However, it's fascinating to think about how certain myths and legends can take hold in popular culture and become widely believed, even if they don't have any basis in reality. I think we should be scared more of EMF and wear emf shielding clothing. IMO, it's the book's writers who created the myth surrounding Dr Pepper and radiation, or it could have been passed down through word of mouth over time.

Actual urban myth. Difficult to track down online due to the DP backlash post 2009.

So the book mentions that Dr Pepper has a myth about it being able to deal with radiation. While that is in both classic and reloaded, where did that come from? I've been searching for any info on this for a bit. Is it an actual myth the writers heard of, or was it just made up by them?
