NPC Card Generator

#1 Postby Zadmar » Wed Feb 26, 2014 6:48 pm

I've noticed a lot of NPC stat cards being released lately, and they're a great idea, so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon. However I'm more of a tools person, so instead of creating a bunch of premade cards, I've written a tool to let you generate your own.

You can access it here: NPC Card Generator

If you use the default card size, you should be able to print 8 cards to a page (set the page to landscape and reduce the margins). You can print the cards straight to paper, or print them to a PDF file for archiving or sharing.

I'm still fiddling with the format, it's very difficult to squeeze everything onto a small card, particularly when the process is automated.

Thanks go to The One for his suggestions and feedback, and providing me with some example layouts.

As an example, here are the animals from Savage Beasts converted into NPC cards.

One suggestion for anyone.printing them out onto cardstock (180gsm) is to use Magic the Gathering style card protectors, so that these become easy to shuffle without having to use expensive materials to print them on

nice one, Zadmar.

Is it possible you adapt the print outcome to use a different background (and no lines)? If you are interested I can provide you the background I use for my 3.5 x 2.5 cards here:

Just let me know :)

Adding a background image and removing the borders is easy, aligning the text to the correct positions would require a little more work. The two main problems would be style consistency (with the text you've already displayed on the cards) and fitting everything onto the card (there's not much space left over - that's one of the reasons why I allow users to adjust the card size, which isn't something you can do with a fixed background image).

However if you'll grant me permission to use your cards, I could create another version of the tool which uses them.

I just sent you a PM with the cards :) I think you should be able to make the Stats fit somehow. :)

I'm afraid not, but you can save the HTML output (or print it as PDF).

There's now a checkbox above the submit button that allows people to use your background.

Following feedback from The One, I've fixed a parsing bug which prevented certain information from being included on the card, added a checkbox which allows you to specify whether or not you want to see power trappings, and Wild Cards now have a symbol beside their name.
