Deamon Summoning Mechanics

#1 Postby PencilBoy99 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:14 pm

In RPG's like Ron Edwards Sorcerer or Geoffry McKinnon's Carcosa, the only thing magic can do is summon, bind, command, and banish otherworldly entities.

Is there a suppliment book, licenced product, etc. out there for Savage Worlds that describes such a set of mechanics?

Thanks!

You might look at Runepunk. It has summoning rules but, a minor warning, it's not Sorcerer or even D&D style summoning. There are more reasons than summoning rules to buy it also, it's an evocative setting. :)

Well, if all magic can do is summon these entities, why not just make demon summoning the trapping of Powers?

Definitely trappings! A bolt is an angry flying imp, a blast and burst a swarm of said demons. An obscure is a smoke demon etc etc.

Just add a few spells regarding summoning from the Fantasy Companion or the Toolkits.

You can simply use the "Zombie" power, and let the player modify the "Zombie" monster in a Demon. with very few work you could substitute Undead with "Demon", move some Strength to Agility, change some skill etc.
Finally, you could allow for a more powerful "demon" spending 3 PPs more (eventually gaining 1 step in a stat, or adding another Monstrous Ability).

In the Fantasy Companion you'll find another more generic "Summon" power.
