Item cards

#1 Postby Vinzent » Wed Aug 15, 2012 10:22 pm

I originally made my item cards as 3x5, but I'm wondering if I should make them playing card sized.
Here's a preview of the 3x5...

BTW: I have the Gyrojet modeled & textured out already as you can see. I have a Gauss Pistol modeled & textured and I am hard at work on the blaster pistol.

What other types of sci-fi pistols do you want to see? Obviously I will be doing rifle versions of the pistols (except the gyrojet, unlees you count a man-portable shoulder fired rocket launcher).

I'm assuming they're for Savage Worlds, no?

Edit: They look pretty good! Don't forget nonweapon/armor gear.

We've done this sort of thing in the past where we took some index cards and cut them down to size, so we could make items up easily enough on the fly.

In a traveller game, we actually used a deck of cards box that was listed as the ship's locker. If someone wanted to have something on their person, they would have to get it out of the locker. If they wound up someplace and did not have the equipment on their person, then they didnt have the equipment. If they died and their body was not retrievable, well, we were out of that piece of equipment.

So long story short, we quickly learned the importance of security and the need for a strict quartermaster. Great idea and love the design you have.

Here's a preview of the playing card size.

btw despite how small this looks on your screen I assure youthat each side of the card is 2.5 x 3.5 in real life.

Very nice. One of the things I enjoyed about playing FFG's Warhammer 3rd edition was the use of cards. I wouldn't want a card for every mundane piece of equipment, but for the major items, especially things with rules or stats that need to be referenced often; or items that are often swapped or "slotted" out- this is very helpful. I started creating spell/power cards for my players in various RPGs.

The advantage of making them playing card sized is that you can put them into card sleeves. I printed mine on paper and then put them in with an actual playing card between the sides for extra sturdiness.

The other advantage is that you can fit more cards onto an 8.5x11 sheet, cutting down on printer costs.

I also like the idea mentioned before about a quartermaster and equipment locker.

Card size has been very advantageous for me and yes you waste a lot less material.

Looks like the Playing Cards have it.

BTW I have touched based with Wiggy. If I do a good enough job, these cards might be available as part of DTotSL.

However, It's taking time to do the weapon art.

I am so with you on that! Plus I love the playing card size. And I am going to steal the Ship's Locker idea!

The Ship's Locker is cool, I've used it for saddle bags, pack mules and backpacks.

The sample card is neat. And the idea of it is sound. I've bought equipment cards from Paizo than I care to count and something like this, especially in like a pack of playing cards that I could get at a brick and mortar game store would be very nice.

So it boils down to this. With my new job I can't crank out the 3D artwork as fast as I wanted. I had been in contact with Wiggy about providing the art and weapon designs for a DTSL download but I just can't meet the order right now.

I've been released to do with the art what I will so I'm going to make the cards a free fan download. I just have to get my flash drive back from my wife and they will be up for your perusal soon.

Sorry for the delay. I wish I could have finished off the series for Wiggy but as it is I only have part of Sundays for my personal projects.
